Which working holiday program did you use?
I used CCUSA’s ‘Work In English Pubs’ program, who assist you in applying for the Old London Pub Company. Click here for a link to the program webpage.
What does the program entail?
For a minimum of 4 months, you live and work in a pub in the United Kingdom. You’re provided with accommodation, at least 1 meal a day, plus a reasonable salary on top of that. You can request an area to work in but depending on the jobs available at the time you won’t necessarily get offered a job in the area you asked for.
How much did it cost to move overseas to work?
Approximate figures:
Pub program fee - $700AUD
Working Visa - $300AUD (If you live in Adelaide, you must fly interstate to a British Consulate as part of the process of obtaining a working visa. I went to Melbourne to do this, which added an additional $300AUD in flights to my expenses).
Bank balance - at least £1600 to obtain a working visa
Flights - $2500AUD
It is a somewhat pricey venture but definitely worth it in the long run!
